"When I go to an art gallery and stand in front of a painting, I don't want someone telling me what I should be seeing or thinking; I want to feel whatever I feel, see whatever I see, and figure out what I figure out."- James Frey -
Born and raised in rural Mississippi, as a child I was always making things. But I didn’t really think of them as “art.” Nobody did, at that time and place. And that was probably a gift. My education was in various venues but graduate school at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore, Maryland was my saving grace. It was there that I met my kindred spirits, including my husband, Stephen Parlato (whose work is also in this gallery).
